BROKEN CABLE KILLS

Four state's prisoners today were
dead and seven were Injured, vic
tims of an accident in the Caro
lina coal mine at Saiifonl. late yes
terday when the cable on a car
bringing a load of prisoners from
tjie mine broke and sent the car
plunging back Into the depths of
the shaft. All were negroes.
Thirty-five men were In the car
when the cable snapped. Kleveu
attempted to leap to safety. Two
wen' killed and the other nine
were Injured, two so badly they
died early today. Those who re
mained In the ear were unhurt.
