Ethtm Gray is spending this week

employed by the Oriental store.
The ftchool will have a Christ
mas tree and program at the whool
house Friday afternoon. The stu
dent body will furnish the Christ
mas treat for the children of the
district.
Raymond Mayfield has been sick
for the last week with flu.
The whole community was sad
dened by the death of William
Townsend, who passed away at the
homo of hi brother-in-law. YV. M.
Smith, last Friday evening about N
o'clock. Mr. Townsend was at
tacked by a mad bull and was
thrown against a tree, crushing his
hip and -also injuring him intern
ally, which caused his death. Mi'.
Smith and family have the heart

Mr. Martin Is. in a tsense. one of
Phoenix's favorite nous. His fath
er. James Martin, now of Grants
Pass., was an early resident of the
community, having a ranch west of
town. He was an elder in the Pres
byterian church and sent his chil
dren, you nt; Have among them,
regularly to Sunday school.
It is a happy circumstance alu
that Mr. Martin I a warm personal
fiend of licv. Mr. Johnson, the
pastor. They were fellow students
in Princeton Theological seminary.
Mr. Martin has been doing pio
neer evangelistic work in Japan
during the last five years, and is
now on furlough and doing further
study at Snn Francisco Theolog
ical bp ml nary. He is in the Uogue
Ttiver valley during the holidays,
visiting his family and speaking
on behalf of Christianity In Japan.
He Is a man with a great heart, a
warm personality and a stirring
message. A cordial invitation is
extended to all to hear him Sunday
morning December 23. at- 11
o'clock at the Phoenix Community
church.
