a well for nearly throe hours last
night during one of the coldest

Luperi fell Into the 4ft-foot shaft,
which was two-thirds full of water,
when he took a short cut across a
field. He dug to crevices In the
masonry until his shouts brought
neighbors with ropes. He was
kept afloat but could not be hnul
d out until the fire department
arrived wtih ladders.
