Ten initiates were conducted
into the mysteries of the Shrine
on Friday niKht, when about 200
members of Hlllnh Temple gath
ered at the Masonic temple from
all points of southern Oregon.
Friday afternoon whs devoted
to a business session of the lodu
when, during the. conduct of the
usual routino business, a donation
was made to assist in making a
happy Christmas celebration for
the children In the Shrine hospital
in Portland. The banquet was
held In the banqueting hall of
the .Masonic Temple. illustrious
l'otentate 1. K. Hammond pre
sided. The menu was festive and sug
gestive of the holiday season and
turkey with accompanying delica
cies served. The dinner program
was a jolly medley of songs and
speeches. Among novices from
Ashland were John Enders, Dr.
W. JO. lilake und Jack Van 1'ragg,
while several came from Medford
Cra nts Pass and Klamath Falls.
The cooked food market, which
wns held at the Dodge furniture
storo on Saturday by Chapter A.
(. of tho 1. 15. o. Sisterhood was
well patronized and netted a good
sum, which will form a neucleus
for a loan fund for students of
the Southern Oregon Normal
school.
Henry C. (laley left for Eugene
on Friday evening to atlend to
business errands and to visit with
his son, John, and 'daughter, Mary,
who are students at the slatfe uni
' versity. The fathers of the boys
in tho Sigma Alpha Epsllon fra
ternity house had planned a. lit
tle surprise for their sons, so ap
peared there for a six o'clock din
ner, an evening of entertainment
and an all-night stay at the house.
About a dozen fathers came
fnmi outside Eugene and four or
five from Eugene homes. Mr.
tialey returned home Sunday
night.
Mr. nnd Mrs. W. J. Crandall and
little daughter, Ann, spent the
Thanksgiving holiday with Dr.
Crandnll's mother at LaOrando.
Oregon, and later visited at Hel
Ungham, Wash., with Mrs. Cran
dall'H" mother " and sister. They
have, returned to their homo in
Ashland.
Airs. C C. Murphy visited in
Medford on Saturday. v
Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Smith left
on Friday morning for Vhittir,
Cal., where they will spend the
winter visiting in the home of
their daughter, Mrs. Leigh Wil
liams. Airs. T. T. AhlHlrom, who has
been in the Community Hospital
for some tims for relief of inju
ries received in an uutomobilo ac
cident. h;is sufficiently recovered
to he taken to her home.
Miss Thelma Perozzi, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. D. Perozzi on
firanito street, is reported ill with
the flu u Eugene, where she is
attending college and is i.'imtlciH
at tho university Infirmary.
Herbert Cole was visiting in
Medford on Friday.
Several cases of flu in a light
form have been reported during
the past week.
