Tho first survey runs from a
point 1ft miles south of liittle Falls,
in a general southerly direction,
to a point three or four miles
from tho .store at Lake o' the
Woods, and thence to tho summit
of the Cascades. The suuvey aiso
taps the Klsh lake district. The
mineral manager said that the sur
vey had started "down Jiutte creek
inwards -Med ford, hut hit a sn,tK"
-Mr. Owen further staled that "a
survey over tho Cascades had
wound up In a. Wo .Man's J-and,' "
and added, "It is just a important
to get down off a hill as to climb
it."
Asked regarding the report that
a. s u r ve yo r w as w o r k i n g in the
Cranls i'nss district, Air. Owen said
"He might have been our man who
was down there straightening out
some trespass' lines."
The general manager refused to
;'ve the name of his chief sur
veyor, and said he intended to keep
him in the field us long as the
weather permits.
"The Owen-Oregon company is
making the surveys," said Air.
Owen yesterday," solely for the

Captain Danenhower has inv?n-
j ed a trap door which Is in use
! upon the "Defender." Thp door is
so constructed that it can be
opened and closed at any depth of
; water. This permits divers to come
j anil go.
When a submarine is In distress
as was the S-4 last winter, the
I rescue ship proceeds to the scene
't and lowers, as near as possible to
ithe lost U-boat. The divers are
i ejected from the trap door, and
I proceed at once to the rescue of
the imprisoned crew. Captain
I Danenhower has patented a drill
I for boring a hole in tho, side of a
submarine, through which fresh
air and oxygen can be piped. His
inventions allow for a speedy loca
tion of any wrecked submarine,
and tho rescue of tho crew. In
) the case of the S-4, It will be re
membered, valuable time was lost
in locating the hull;.
Captain Danenhower's boat is
also equipped with mushroom
ain-hors which prevent it from
moving on the floor of the ocean,
being held firm by air pressure. .
The experiments of Captain
Danenhower are in an advanced
stage and practically assured of
success, and are even now regard
ed as a valuable contribution to
naval and salvage work.
Tho lowly second string men of

team, who have been knocking the

season, and squatting on the bench
watching them play, will get their
chance to shine and win their let
ters next Saturday, In the game

few touchdowns yourself."
The second string has any num
ber of good players in Its ranks,
and the coach is anxious that they
should get under fire and have a
few games under their belt for
next season. In Applegttte the scrubs
have a fast halfback who lacks
experience; Motz, Kprugue and
Ossie Newlin, linesmen, and Alason
renter, a big boy who is under
studying for Hern to Hughes' job
next year. There Is also Jack
Walker, who Is built close to the
ground like Connie Conrnd.
The game next Saturday pro
mises to be hard fought, as the
rivalry between the two teams is
strong, and Klamath Falls has her
heart set on winning and will bring
a large delegation of rooters. Aleil
