the Medford chamber of commerce
will embark on a campaign to in
crease its present memborship by
at least 100. The campaign this
year will be a competitive one,
participated in by the Ashland and
Modford chambers of commerce,
and will be held (luring the first

ficially opening Monday morning,

the teams of bofh organizations
will begin their canvass for mem
bers. It. is the hope of the local or
ganization to build up the present

civic organization, and are only

The local chamber of commerce"
has had a very successful year,
under the leadership of its presi
dent, John C. Mann, and is progress
ing rapidly upon its selected pro
gram of work foj- lii'JS. This pro
gram has four major projects, viz.:

velopment. Industrial and publi
city, and in each of lhe.se depart
ments a good deal of effort has
been made by the committees in
charge. Another major Item which
the '.chamber hopes to accomplish
before the end of the year is the
inauguration of a new nlrport for
Medford. The committee in charge
of this activity, headed by Meely
Hall, has its program well in hand,
nnd will soon make its eampulgn
for the new landing field, C. T.
Baker, secretary, said today.

will be done by ten teams, each

be killed by a local hunter for
several years was reported this
week by Wilslc i'luitt who with a
party made up of Mr. and Mrs.
Hoy Pruitt and J. 11. Pruitt spent
last week on a bunting trin at the
Sugar Pine camp on the Umpqua
diviiie.

timber wolf might have caused
him to bat his eyes if his gun
hadn't been loaded, young Pruitt
decided a few minutes after he had
shot and killed the animal as it
stood on a log a short 'distance
from the Sugar Pine creek trail.

A special election will be held in
the Howard nnd Berrydale sections
on October 20 which will determine
whether or not those localities will
form their own water districts.
This was decided by the county
court yesterday following a peti
tion tiled with the county clerk by
residents of both districts.
There were over SO residents
represented on the petition, a suf
ficient number to warrant the ac
tion of the county court. The elec
tion will be held at tho Howard
school, and if the issue curries the
sections will he designated as the
Howard-Herrydale district.

district. They will have charge of
fixing rates and determining meth
ods of financing the project, wheth
er It be through assessments or
rasing bonds.
