Easier credit conditions and favor
able trade news provided the back
ground for a sharp advance In
prices in today's stock market. Hay
ing was rather selective in charac
ter but embraced many of the pop
ular industrials, the rise in which
was accelerated by active short
covering.
Call money renewed at 7 per cent
as against lxh yesterday and then
dropped to 6M; end G per cent.
Bullish sentiment was created by
the Increase in freight car loadings,
the optimistic tenor of the weekly
steel trade reviews and the in
ctease from $5 to $G In the annual
dividend on Kennecott copper.
General Motors, wfiich bas been
sluggish for the past fortnight,
suddenly advanced nearlv G points
to 182. Radio which had been
telling 15 to 20 points below Gen
eral Motors for the greater part of
the last month, crossed General
Motors in price today by soaring
10 points to 182. American Can
was another active feature climb
