"The Christian Science Monitor"
of July 31. describes the fishing
trip of Herbert Hoover to this val
ley without mentioning fish, the
"kidnaping." or . pestiferous photo
graphers, so thoroughly discussed
by the correspondents of New York
papers. '
The trip from Grunts Pass, to
this city, is described us follows:
"To the gleam uf a sunset en
folding lofty Jit. Pitt the party
assembled at Grunts Puss anil on
a fine macadam road proceeded
from that beautiful little eomi""
nity to this charming city. We
wound up the day in scenic splen
dors." ...This is, in Hharp contrast to the
other accounts, which maintained
that at Grants Pass, the nominee
was "hired" down the macadam
road to be "kidnaped" when Tog
gery Bill diabolically and diagonal
ly placed his auto across the
I Hoover path.
The column length article
stresses Mr. Hoover's lose of nature
and tells of his knowledge ami love
of the mountains and the trees.
The article concludes:
Here was a presidential can
didate, a man of International
repute, whose presence and
activities were important news
In his quiet and simple way
gett ing out among the hills
and forests that he knows and
loves and getting from their
beauty and peace the serenity
