19 FOREST FIRES LOCAL
SET YESTERDAY; SUFFER FROM RAID
ALL CONTROLLED BY PETTY THIEVES
Nineteen forest fires within ;i
radius of a mile were started yes
terday afternoon In the Fvans
creek section, which it is thought
at the forest headquarters here,
were undoubtedly of incendiary
origin. Due to their prompt dis
covery and fast work by state
laud and volunteer fire fighters,
a phone message received late
this forenoon at the - forest head
quarters office in Medford, staled
that while there was much smoke,
in that section, so far as could
be learned there, these fires had
all been rounded up a ml were
under control.
These fires were in brush and
old t i m her, and so fa r as was
known here, tip to early this after
noun, no ranches had been burned
It will not be known just how
much damage was done until the
return of Slate Fire Warder,
I'hlpps from the scene.
It will be remembered that
about t wo years ago, t here was
a series of incendiary fires in the
Kvans creek district, started, it
was thought at that time, by per
sons who wanted jobs at fire-fighting-.
This motive, it was

been responsible for the I : fires

olher theory ventured is that they
were started by Incendiaries to
burn away brush to make way

The lively fire situation started
in the Kvans Creek district early
yesterday afternoon, when a small
fire was discovered al Hybee
Springs at '2 o'clock, and an
other at Dixie (lulch at :(::::
