ING A SPORT
Yes, I try to he a sport, men's
approvil I would court, hut it
often in a strain such an effort
to maintain. , When I go to pay
my tax, taking hard earned coiu
in Hacks, l am truly full of care
and would like to paw the air,
for I feel my face- ia ground by
a government unsound; I've ar.
impulse to uprise, hot rebellion
in my yea. to Insist it is a
crime that we're taxed so all the
tlniM. But I've noticed that tlx
gents who put up atich sad la
ments with a high degree of
grit, do not acem to make a hit.
"They are misers," people say.
"they are cheap in every way;
they'd enjoy a government that
lias all the virtues of a bleni,
hut they think It Is a frost whij
they help to pay the cost. They
are pikers, small and vile, or
they'd pay up with a smile."
1'ma fraid my neighbors might
think me such a tihnorn wighl
if I waved a battle-ax when I
came to pay my tax. To the
tax collector's den I convey my
iron men, and produce them
with a srin of the kind that's
Hiire to win. And the tax col
lector cries, "You're a sport, dad
bing my eyes; In thlH world of
ten-cent jdya, blessed is the mail
who pays with a smile that
naught can wreck, winding twice
around his neck. In this world
of frigid feet it's a boon, so
help me Pete; noble Is the man
who digs up the minted thing
mo-Jigs, planks his heard earned
money down, with no symptom
of a frown." Thus he speaks,
and when I go all my beiiw; is
aglow. Sportsmanship, though
based on fear, gets the plaudits
far and near. Kear of what my
