McCall, a transient, sole a coupe
owned by B. h. Chadinan at Union
Creek and drove it only a short
distance before he wrecked the ma
chine, the owner of which managed
to overtake McCall and hold him
for Sheriff Jennings. Adams, whose
home is believed to be in Klamath
Falls, cashed a check on the Hotel
Jackson and was arrested two days
ago. McCall's arrest also took
place two days ago.
Due to the absence from the city
of the mayor and several council- j
men, leaving only a quorum pres
ent, the city council meeting last
night, at which Councilman II.' 11.
Janney presided ns chairman, be
yond voting to sell some water
bonds and' transacting some rou
tine business, postponed the con
sideration of all Impending Impor
tant matters until an adjourned
meeting could he held Thursday
night, when the mayor and city
attorney, and posslhly Councilman

meeting will be an exceptionally

At last night's meeting the coun
cil voted the sale of Ji'i.WKt worth
of city water assessmi nt bonds to
the bond house of Pierce, Vitiv &
company of Portland, the highest
of the two bidders, whose bid was
3100.126, which means a premium
of S3B.&4. The bid of the Mcdford
National bank was at par.
It was voted to give the Sunrise
nuto apartments camp a permit to
erect a sign across Itlvcrside nir
Twelfth, in front of the ,camp f
that tourists and other passers by
would see it, as the present sign is
obscured by trees.
Tipton Has Second Fire
TULARK, Cal., June 20.
For the second time within a year,
the business district of Tipton, 11
miles south of here, had been de
stroyed by fire today. An early
morning fire destroyed eight build
ings and only the telephone build
ing and a small restaurant were
left standing. The loss is estimat
ed at more than $100,00n.

On the first day the public
learned Miss Lillian Dunlap, ot
Rochester, N. Y., a grocery cash
ier, had inherited $40,000, left
her by an uncle in Texas, she re
ceived four proposals of marriage,
flowers, invitations to house par
ties and many letters. She plans
to keep her job and "just go
alone" as usual.

venture for them. The jewelry
stock at their Main street shop was
recently sold out and the business
discontinued.
The orchard was planted by
Bruce Wilson 20 years ago and then
purchased by A. it Chew, who
sold it to Dr. Heddy. Dr. Redely
has been in the valley since the
first pear orchards were put out.
The salu was made through Wold
& Wold, realtors. , Dr. and Mrs.
Redriy and family plan to make
their permanent home on (he ranch.

A delegation of residents of the
Pinehurst in southeastern Jackson
eouc!y called upon the county court
this morning and asked that a road
be maintained from Pinehurst to
the California state line near the
summit of tlie Sisklyous. The road
has een maintained for years by
the residents and they now ask
that it he taken over by the county.
Iteiween 26 and 30 families would
be benefited.
The county court Informed the
delegation that they would visit
the Pinehurst district and view
tho mail within the nest month.
The road improvement, according,
to J. (i. Thompson of the California
Oregon Power company, would bo
beneficial to the Copco plant on the
