trary to general opinion. Acting

to remain in Salem during this

most of the time In Medford.
Mr. Carkin has already begun
to receive telegraphic messages
In relation to his becoming acting
governor, as this forenoon he re
ceived a telegraphic message from
Miss Walton, notifying him to
make arrangements to be in Sa
lem next Tuesday, because it a
meeting there on that day of the
state bonus commission, aud of
his presence being needed lo
make a quorum. Her telegram
said that she would further ad
vise him Monday if there was
change In tho arrangements for
this meeting.
Of course, whenever the acting
governor noes to Salem for a spe
cific purpose, other matters may
come up nfter he nr riven there,
which may hold him at the state
capital for several days.
