EAGLE POINT
Would -be nibbfi-H nVudo an at
tempt to rob tlic Klrst Stute bunk
Friday nlRlit. this being tho third
robbery for Kayle; I'oint this your.
Tho iot-.-office lni . been robbed
twice with very little kuccchh on tho
part of the would-bn robbern. Sat
urday morning' the officers dis
covered something rather unusual
had taken place an soon as tho
room waff entered, and upon look
ing further' It was discovered Unit
the heavy hinge to the large vault
door had been disconnected and
that all bolts holding crane hinge
and outside bolts had been laburi
'ou.sly removed. When looking for
a possibles place of entrance tho
back door was found unlocked and
slightly njar.
It was evident that the burglars
we're not aware that the door was
securely fastened by ten heavy
steel bars on the inside of the
door In addition to tho holts re
moved on the outside. Kven had
they gained" entrance to thn vault
they would have encountered it'
manganese screw door safe that
would have kept Ihcm busy for
tho remainder of the night. Who
ever was so foolish as to attempt
itueh a Job received no compen
sation for a good deal of work.
The h'-lts w h i c h were removed
were for tho most part left right
handy on the floor In front of tho
door, but two small bolts appear
to be missing. The large wrench
which was evidently used by them
wan found in the gross near the
bank building, v h t c h was also
used to replaco the bolts, which
was very thoughtful nf them.
The customers of the bank were
eomewhat inconvenienced by the
delay In opening the vault, wait
ing for Deputy Sheriff Paul Jen
nings to take finger prints and to
replace the bolts.
It was felt that the bank was
rather fortunate In that no loos
whatever was sustained. Often In
such cases some property Is de
stroyed and Inconvenience is the
result.
This bank, in common with most
banks nowdays. carries insurance
protection on their money and se
curities nnd vault contents, so that
a direct lost would not be felt on
the bank or the community even
if u robbery were successful.
It Is hoped that the largest
crowd yet to attend an entertain
ment In the new (.range hall will
be out for tho church benefit next
Friday night. A very splendid
program in assured and the cause
is a worthy one, so we urge upon
you to purchase your tickets and
help that much even If you might
be prevented from going for some
reason or other. The price of ad
mission Is 50c for adults and 15c
for children. The first part of
the program will -be the cantata,
"The Childhood of Hiawatha" and
the second part will be a two-act
piny entitled "Mrs. Onkleyu's Tele
phone." Kvcrytne who enjoyed
this group in the "Spinsters' Club" :
and the littro play that followed It
will enjoy this program. Two !
musical numbers will be given by i
a group of school children. This
be two-part singing and will
be worth hearing. Those taking
part In this entertainment are
Mrs. lioyal Hrown, Mrs. Van Scoy,
Mrs. Mlttlestedt. Mrs. Wetdman.
Mi. Verta Vruett, Mrs. Davie.
MrM. flrove. Mrs. lion hum and Mr.
