scare this morning and four of them
smudged about sunrise, until dan
ger was past. Although the lowest
temperature in Medford was M.7. It
wn five degrees colder In Ihe low
lyliK? orchards, which, at this stage
of the development of the buds,
cannot stand a temperature lower
than 30 without damage. Two of
the orchards firing were the Klam
ath and Bear Creek orchards. Little,
If any. damage was done by the
frost In the colder orchards.
Floyd Young, the frost expert,
predicted a temperature1 of 3'1 last
evening, hence the fruit men with
orchards lying in the more exposed
parts were on 'guard ready to

A novel radio program was pre
sented over the local station last
evening during Copco hour featur
ing the Harmonica Quartet of the
Junior high school under the di
rection of Miss -Melba Williams,
instructor of music. The progiVim
was sponsored by the California
Oregon Power company in nn en
deavor to stimulate Interest in the
Harmonica Bitnd movement which
Is becoming nation-wide in scope.
Preceding the musical numbers
Miss Williams gave un interesting
outline of the work ami told of the
thousands of American youths who
are taking It up throughout the
country. Philadelphia leads the
United States with 70.00U enrolled
and many other clt:es have already
organized one or more harmonica
bands.'' The Junior high school of
Medford ulreudy bus u similar
hand under way thanks to the
efforts of Miss Williams and it is
hoped to present this novel organi
zation during n Copco program In
the near future.
In addition to tho harmonica
quartet, solo and duet numbers
last evening Mifs Williams sang
several attractive groups of so
prano solos, being aceompunied by

the information the water shed
protection bills for Mod ford's
water supply, which were paused
last week, by the senate and house,
hud been signed by tho president
and were now laws.
These bills reserve land uround
the Rig Rutte springs, the source
of the city's water supply, for n
distance of six miles. One bill
provides that all the laud within
six miles of the springs be given
into the custody of tho forest ser
vice, thus ensuring that it will be
patrolh'd ami guarded by that ser
vice. Tho other bill provides that
wheJtf the Owen-Oregon Lumber
company has completed Its present
logging operations within the six
miles enclosure tho company can
exchange Its logged off land With
