Forest regulations to be ob
served on state timberlands were
made public today by D. I Phipps
district fire warden for Jackson
county. I
During the period from May 15
to October 1, which has been
designated as the closed season.
It" will bo unlawful for any per
son to set on fire or causo to be
set tm flro, any forest land, grass,
grain or stubble, either his own
or the property of another, with
out first securing a written per
mit from a state fire warden ana
complying with the terms there
of. It is urgently requested that
all slashings be burned before
May 15 and In accordance with
Mectlon 21 of the Oregon forest
flro laws. And that all loggers,
lumbermen, and contractors ob
serve sections 13 to 19. Inclusive
of the Oregon forest fire laws.
in the preparation of this season's
work.
Tho text of section 21 Is as
follows:
"Kvery one (by which Is meant
every person, firm or corporation)
engaged In logging or wood cut
ting, or permitting logging . or
wood cutting upon his lands In
this state, thereby creating a fire
hazard, shall, unless relieved by
the state forester, each year re
move such hazard by burning his
annual slashing, by which Is
meant the tops and Inflammable
refuse left after logging or wood
cutting, at such time and In such
manner as shall afford all neces
sary, precaution against the spread
of file to other property."
Section 15 points out further:
"Every one conducting a logging
operation, whether by Bteam, horso
power or otherwise, shall main
tain at tho landings of such ope-i
ration, In good condition for fire
fighting purposes only, a tool box
containing fire fighting equip
ment for six men at all times, be'
tween May 1 and October 1."
