The Girl Scouts court of award
was held Friday night at scout
headquarters with a large atten
dance of parents and friends. The
girls have advanced a long way in
their scouting since beginning last
spring. Troop '2 always meets
with troop for their court of
awards, and the girls enjoy that
very much.
Miss Lydn T. King, county
health nurse gave the girl a very
interesting talk on their sixth law
of being kind to animals, how they
could Vssist the city and county
humane society in their work of
bettering life for the animals and
reacting in the long run very ma
terially for the benefit of mankind.
Three new badges that have
never been awarded before, came
before the court Friday night, id'
music, health winner and path
finder. The health winners badge
being a well kept record of per
sonal health covering a period of
three months lime, and showing
an improvement in posture. Mil
dred Walker received the music
ian's badge. Klizubeih Fleischer
the healt h winners badge and
Doris llundy the pathf i n d e r s
badge.
The eight tenderfeet. or new
girls, who came before the court
were Patsy Smith. Theda Moore.
Hetty Hates, I orothy Gore, liar
barn Fields. Janice F.mory. Hazel
Moffat and Muriel Waters. Two
hi the glils advanced to second
class, Luverno Shoults and Hert
Porter, while Madge Kunzman has
advanced far enough to he award
ed the first class badge, there be
ing only one other first class Girl
Scout in Med ford. Doris Hundy.
Mrs. J. R. Woodford and daugh
ter Jean entertained the girls of
troop one with a party at their
home. 5'2 South Holly, which was
very much enjoyed by all the 3 4
girls present, ami who appreciat
ed very much the evening of
games, as well as the refreshments
Mrs. Woodford so kindly served.
Some of the girls of both troops
ore just now recovering from their
first spring dose of poison oak,
contracted on a hike that 4S of the
i;irl Scouts took to I.nmb Tongue
hill, where they roasted weinies
and ate their lunch, and generally
enjoyed the afternoon very much,
as well ns viewing the beautiful
patch of lamb-tongue in full
bloom, but did not pick them as
the girls are taught to conserve
the beautiful wild flowers, especi
ally those that do not allow having
their roots bothered by picking
and pulling the blooms. And de
spite the precautions taken to keep
the poison oak away, some of theni
suffered quite a dose, but not
enough to take away the pleasure
enjoyed on the hike, which all en
joyed very much. Hoth the cap
tains, Mrs. Douglas Willson and
Mrs. Catherine Helcher went with
the girls. All are anticipating
more hikes as soon as the weather
again clears off.
