important work, important fur the relief of suffering and import

to ho properly carried on.
For many years The JIail Trihnno has urged the liberal purchase
ct Christmas seals, us a movement, particularly in harmony with
tho spirit of Christmas. This year we would like to make our ap
peal even more emphatic.
From the first, Jackson County has been a pioneer in this splen
did work of constructive charity and amelioration of human con
ditions, and the movement in the entire state, would receive a
serious setback, if this county should fail to maintain its leadership
at this time.
Such demands are many. And tho increase required this year
represents rather a formidable sum. But the goal can he easily
reached, if former contributors will add a little more, and if tho
people of Jackson County as a whole, will only take tho trouble to
see that a few cents are added to every Christmas package in the
way of their appropriate decoration with Christmas seals.

Tho feminine franchise, it appears, if granted at all, is to apply
only to municipal elections. Aud in that proposal there is an amus
ing little joker.
The joker is tho fact that the same parliament, under .the whip
of I 'rcmicr Mussolini, is enacting a law suppressing municipal elec
tions in (UUO of Italy s 9000" municipalities. What it amounts to,
therefore, is that the Italian women, if they ale lucky, may enjoy
moderate electoral rights in two cities out of every nine, and none
of them AVill have anything to say about national government.
Still, male Italians haven't much more to say "any more, about
the Italian government. ' ' . - x
