F
RUIT GIVEN TO
E. H. Hnrcl of this city, who assisted
onehalf ot the National Kimn I-oan
associations of thin val!y in eiiinluet
Ing the congressional Kiili-ionimlttee
of the house of representatives, hank
ing and currency eoinnilllCR and the
members and representatives of the
farm loan board of WashiiiKton, I). I!.,
through this section of southern Ore
gon last month, is In receipt of
letter from Congressman Strong of
Kansas of the nar'v. as follows:
My Dear Mr. Ilurd:
I recoived yours of October !M
addressed to me at lierkeley. Cal.,
and also the boxes of wonderful
fruit which you sent. I do not
think I ever saw more perfect,
and splendid fruit ami certainly
your valley Is to be congratulated
uocn Its uhijlty to prodiico the
same.
Our entire delegation enjoyed
them and will always remember
the valley from which they came.
We round the banks all In
splendid ' condition and doln-7 a
wonder fill work In financing agri
culture, the Spokane bank being
the only one that had serious
losses, but they are being absorbed
through the co-operative features'
existing between the banks, so
that all will be charged off .out
of surpluses and the standing of
the banks remains unimpaired.
Different problems, which caused
one bank to wish an amendment
which is nut of pressing import
ance to the others, which has
caused me to recommend that
when the presidents of the twelve
banks moot In Washington they
enter Into a conference on tho
changes In the law each believes
necessary so as to present con
crete recommendations to our
committee backed by the united
endorsements of the twelve banks.
You can understand that if such
action Is not taken any uttampt
of our committee to make changes.
In the law will not have the united
support of all the banks and per
haps bring about opposition from'
some of them.
; Those of our committee who
were opposed to the legislation
. : we passed wore entirely won over
lnrinr the trip after securing a
better understanding of agricul-,
tnral conditions, and the needs In
, the various sections of the conn-
.trv. as well as the splendid relief
.tiling given by the banks and their
soundness from a financial stand
point, so that the li'Jp has been
of much benefit to the farm loan
system In which wo are so In
terested. '
; .1 With kindest nersonnl regards
and nenlu thanking you for tho
splendid fruit, I am
! . . Sincerely yours.
