STANFOltn, f'al., Nov. 4. (A. P.)
Stanford's powerful grbllron ma
chine, Hying tin blazing red banner
of lcadei'Hlilp In the Pacific coast
conference, will steam out of its
home area tonight In search of new
fields to conquer.
Hut the quest will soon end. For
at Seattle the Cardinals are duo to
clash with the Washington football
eleven next Saturday. That Jugger
naut of tho north also Is undefeated
and equally determined to keep Its
conference wlate clean. Stanford only
assumes top position in the confer
ence race by virtue of three victories
and no defeats. Washington Jias won
two games and lost none. California
rounds out the trio of undefeated
tenuis with no conference losses and
one victory.
It Is tho belief of tho Cardinal
conches that If Stanford 1h going: to
be defeated by a college eleven thlH
year, that defeat, will come nt the
hands of the ITnlversity of Washing
ton next Saturday. Therefore, Coach
Glenn Warner this week has drilled
his men for their hardest game of
the season. ' 1
J n their .id to 13 defeat of Ore
gon last weekt the Cards proved that
they are essentially an offensive
team. They scored five touchdowns
against the northerners and - should
have had one or two more. -
Oregon, however, was ablo to slip
across the goal upon two occasions
and In so doing made the red shirtH
look pretty bad, defensively. Against
. A. C. the previous week, Stan
ford's defense was weak and ragged
despile the fact that the Aggies went
home with , the nhoi't end of the
score. This problem of defense, con
sequently, has been presented In
liberal doses by Coach Warner for
three days. '
