banking and farm loan systems ar
rived in tho city this forenoon from
Portland .enrouto to San Francisco
on a tour of the nation, nnd wero
taken to Anhland by automobiles
donated by local citizens for the pur
pose. Whilo enroute the party of
eleven wero shown several of tho
valley's best orchards.
' The party pass::.g through today is
a sub-committee composed of rep
resentatives of tho house, other mem
bers, including tho senators, having
returned, east from Spokane nd
Seattle. Wash. The persnnnel includes
members from varloui sections of the
nation touring the continent to
gather general information as to the
agricultural situation in connection
with the recent farm loan act, intro
duced by Representative J. O. Strong
of Kansas. When the tour of in
vestigation has been completed a re
port will be made to the main com
mittee in regard to general recom
mendations for future legislation.
"As a whole," said one member of
the party, "wo found conditions very
good. Tho agricultural areas seem
to be getting on a sound basis, nnd
tho banks In the country uniformly
are in splendid condition. No ma
terial change will be made in the
farm loan act at the next session of
congress. There may be some minor
changes as a result of our inspection,
but the act is working out well as
a whole."

To the majority of the members
this tour took them through Oregon
for the first time. Rogue River val
ley especially impressed the visiting
officials after viewing some of the
fine orchards being taken over Kings
highway from Oakdale and then
striking the 1'acifie highway at Voor
hies crossing. At Ashland tho party
re-bnarded the train and continued
on toward Ca 1 1 f ornia.
