Fire, attributed to defective. wiring,
pructlcully gutted a three-rooia cot
tage at 823 East Ninth street, owned
aud tenanted by Mrs. Ulanche Meeker,
ut 3:30 this morning. The loss, esti
mated to exceed . $2,000, is covered by
Insurance.
The lire started in the attic, accord
ing to Mrs. Meeker, who states she
was awakened by the crackling of the
Humes. Opening a celling entrance
she discovered the attic to be entirely
ablaze, sparks and flames issuing
forth from the entrance. Having no
phone, she managed to awaken a
'neighbor, who sent In the alarm.
