SHOT FOR A DEER
LIVES TWO DAYS
ROGUE mVKR, Oct. 15. Leslie
Carr, while out hunting last Saturday
was mistaken for a deer by his com
panion and shot through the hip and
passed away Monday. He was at his
sinter's near Myrtle Creek. Hia par
ents and brother left Saturday as soon
as word was received of the acci
dent. ' .
Reed Carter returned Saturday
evening from a business trip to Port
land. While away Mr. Carter visited
his brother ut Tacoma, Wash.
Fred Minthorn, an old resident of
Kvans Valley, died Thursday morn
ing at the home of his son in Grants
l'ass. Mr. Minthorn was born April
21, 1854 in Wisconsin and died Oct. 8.
1925. He In survived by the widow
and two sons and two daughters. Mr.
Minthorn has lived here for the past
30 years and leaves a host of friends
who mourn his passing. The funeral
was held Sunday ufternoon at the
Hope Preabyterian. church.' Rev. Wil
son officiating. The Enterprise

grave. Many beautiful flowers were
brought showing the esteem the
friends felt for the departed. -
While riding on the. running gears
of a wagon Monday, the young son of
Fred Witt, who lives on , Pleasant
Creek, in some manner caught his
foot on a stump and broke his leg just
above the ankle.
James Milton is hauling lumber for
the building of a new house on his
ranch.
The Kvans Valley school has all
new teachers this year. ,,. -
The first issue of the school paper
was printed last week. The paper
will be. published weekly this win
ter and Is a very interesting little
sheet.
Born to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Crump
on September 28. a daughter. Mrs,
Crump was formerly Miss Grace Car
ter. - ' .

Mrs. Eliza Caldwell has .returned to
Rogue River for the winter after sev
eral months spent up In the valley.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Strahan visited
Tuesday at their daughter's in Talent.
Mrs. Bob Grimm ett has returned to
the logging camp after a few duys
spent at home.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Campbell,
parents of Mrs. Earl Strahan, left last
Friday for a visit with a daughter in
southern California. They expect to
be goen a couple of months, j
A very pleasant surprise party was
given at the Eearhart home in honor
of Arleues' birthday, September 23rd.
Every one present report a jolly time.
The Campfire girls gave a banquet
one evening last week in honor of the
new members they were taking Into
the organization.
A new furnace has been placed In
the school house.
Mr. and Mrs. Reed Carter and1: Mrs.
Bessie tturkfuirt and Betty Jean were
callers at the Oscar Shepherd home
Tuesday evening.
The ladies of the CIvte Improve
ment club met with Mrs. Fred O'Kelly
Friday.
James Owens has been visiting his
daughter Mrs. Glenn Woolridge and
while here Mr. Owens also looked over
his properly and made some repairs.
Aid en Gal breath was shaking hands
with friends in Rogue River Wednes
day. Alden has been away all- sum
mer in the logging camps of Califor
nia. At the last meeting of the Grange
several new names were presented for
membership. We are glad to see oth
ers taking interest in the Grange
work. -

was held Friday, evening, October 9,
In the city hall, about 75 being pres
ent from Josephine, Klamath and
Jackson counties. A sumptuous rab
bit supper was served at 7:30 by the
wives of the local rabbit breeders.

nesday of last week from Portland.
Cliff Garvin is out on a hunting trip.
Dee Bowman, Janoh Barrett and
Bill Spitzer left Monday on a hunting
trip over in the Applegatn country.
' Mr. Shattuck bas traded his ranch
to Dr.' Reedy for a ranch about 40
miles this side of Portland. Mr; Shat
tuck does not expect to move until

Mr. and Mrs. T. Tt. Larabson of
Grants Pass arrived Thursday, visit
ing with their neice. Mrs. R. C. Logan,
until Friday, when they left for Klam
ath on a duck hunting excursion,
Mesdames R. C. Logan and C. W.
Hoidridge entertained the Ladies' Aid
society Thursday, October 8, at the ,
home.of Mrs. Logan.
Mrs". Catherine Alford died at her
home in Talent Friday. October 9, at
2:30 P. M. Her funeral was held at
her late home Sunday afternoon,
burial beln? In the Medford cemetery.
Mrs. Alford was one of the early pio
neers of Oregon and of Jackson
county, having crossed the nlains bv
ox team in 1850. She was nearly 87
years old. During her last Illness she
was cared' for by her daughter, Mrs.
L. F. Wllllts. Mrs. Budgeon, Mrs. R. C.
Logan and Mrs. C. W. Long.
Mrs. Hubbard, who has been quite
ill. Is able to sit up now.
Mrs. Elizabeth Breexe was a visitor
in the seventh and eighth grade room
Tuesday.
Last Saturday evening the eighth
grade gave a party to the seventh
grade at the schoolhouse, when the
seventh ?rade automatically became
members of the Utopian society. The
evening passed pleasantly with games
and the Initiation and thev say the
"eats" were swell. C. L. Ward, their
teacher, sponsored the affair.
Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Wedee and
daughter. Mrs. George Waterman, and
.Mr. and Mrs. Gus Beck spent Sunday
at the Siskiyon summit.
Mrs. Margaret Cothlln Bowman
passed away Thursday. October 8, at
the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. M.
Turnbaugh, after a long Illness. She
was an invalid for a number of years
md was loved by those who knew her.
Interment took place Friday at the
Talent cemetery, where a short serv
ice wnR held.

and death of their mother, Mrs. Mar
garet Bowman.
W. C. Newbry and family, who have
been visiting at the home of his
brother, K. T. Newbry, lor some lime,
are moving into an apartment in the
Ames building.
Mrs. Martha Madison, known to her
friends as Aunt Martha, has n new
radio, installed Tuesday by .Mr. Vlntlli
of Medford.
Fred Rapp and Mr. Cochrane are
hunting deer In the Mt. Pitt country.
Little Esther Cochrane fell on the
play ground at school Wednesday
morning, breaking her left arm below
the elbow.
Lloyd Lamb returned Wednesday to
his work in the Crater lake park re
serve after a short visit with friends
and relatives.
Millard Henson was ill with "flu"
all last week.
A social event of the season occured
last Wednesday evening when the
ladles of the Community club gave a
public reception at their rooms In
honor of the teachers of the Talent
schools. A large crowd was present
and the following program, in charge
of Mrs. C. I j. Ward, was given: "Old
Time Melodies," piano solo by Anna
Evans; rending, Mrs. C. W. Long;
reading, Miss Ruth Genoway. These
numbers were interspersed by popular
music furnished by Mr. and Mrs.
Everett Hoone. Dainty refreshments
were served by the committee in
charge at the close of a most delight
ful social evening. Mrs. C. W. Hold
ridge was chairman of the refresh
ment committee. -
Friends were ' shocked Tuesday
when the news spread that Mr.
Denham had died suddenly, tie wns
found In his work shop by J. N.
Pace about 11 o'clock in the forenoon.
Only a short time before he had been
talking with Mr. Pace and Mr. Petrle.
Mrs. Denham was in Oakland at the
time, where she was visiting her son.
Lloyd Turner. Her son made the trip
home with her. Funeral services will
be held Friday at 2 P. M. at Talent
M. E. church.
