a plea of not guilty. The attentions
Glbbs Is alleged to hare paid the wife
of the grey-haired prisoner was the
motive for the tragedy.
It is expected that Huntley will
plead self-defense. He was repre
sented In court by Attorney George M.
Jtoberts. It is the first case in Jack
son county in ten years In which the
extreme penalty is death.
C. A. Ramsey, Indicted on a charge
of larceny by bailee, was given until
Wednesday morning to plead.
J. S. Wheaton, Indicted for larceny
of household goods from the J. M.
Illgdon home at Ashland, will enter a
plea at the same time.
It Is probable that the trials of the
three men will be placed on the calen
dar for the term of court starting
October 26.

control as Catholie chaplain for the
i boys' training school and the state
penitentiary, succeeding Rev. J. II.
Buck, pastor of St. Joseph's church of
Salem, who resigned today. For some
years Father Keenan has been assist
ant at St. Paul's church.

manner of conducting religious serv
ices at the boys' school whereby the
Catholic and Protestant chaplains con
duct alternate general Sunday serv
ices at the school without segregation
of Catholic and Protestant boys. His
objection was that the method gave
no opportunity for Instructing Catholic
boys in the Catholic faith.
An agreement jvas reached whereby
the general services will be conducted
as in the past, but additional time
given the Catholic chaplain following
his general service in which to In
struct the Catholic boys at the school.
The board today further threshed
out the petition of labor union rep
resentativea for a readjustment of
engineers' wages at the state Institu
tions. It is probable that the board
will give the superintendents author
ity to adjust individual cases, but not
order a general revision of wages. In
the meantime they are Instructed to
ascertain the scale of wages paid at
the institutions of other states.

response to Its call for sweater knit
ters but needs a few more to make
up the quota. Yarn will be furnished
by the chapter or knitters can supply
their own. There is sewing to be
done, bed jackets to be made of soft
warm stuff. Patterns and materials
are at the Red Cross office. Or If you
like to knit but find a sweater too big
an undertaking, there are the beanies.
What's a beaney? Just a cap, a
round, knitted cap, esteemed by school
boys and now taken over as a special
comfort for the disabled man who has
to spend all the time in the open air.
Hundreds are needed and it takes only
two ounces of yarn to make one.

tion tho sale of the present city hall,
which would bring more than half the
amount of the bond Issue, that would
be applied to cancel bonds and would
reduce the levy one-half, or the time
for paying the bonds to five years
