In; ovrrlookcil, iiiiinoly tli fjiicntitin of (listrilyitiiiK a full sup
ply of water to nil purtx of the city, at alf times. i
As the criKiiieers rejiort kIiowk, with the present system, the; de
livery of aileipiat" water to the west anil particularly tho Oakdale
section of the city, during the summer months is physically irn
possihle. , .
This is due to tho fact that there is no larse cross-town distribut
ing main, and until such a main is constructed, the new system
would mean jiurc water, but not enough water for necessary sum
mer irrigation.
Realizing this fact the water commission lias provided $100,000
of the !);;i7ij,000 bond issue to build ft complete distributing system
from the reservoir to the westward across the city, carrying a full
supply of water to every Keel ion of the city, not now properly sup
plied. This will mean pure water, and plenty of water, for every sec
tion of the city every day in the year. True this will cost money.
Hut isn't an end to water boiling and an end of irrigation restric
tions worth money T Isn't tin.' health of the city worth money? ,
.
And just how much money will it take, from the standpoint of
the individual citizen I
There has been considerable talk about high Uixes mid the folly
of raising them. Itul, according to the water commission's present
plan, this new bond issue will not raise city taxes a cent.
Hy raising the water rate about fifty per cent or one dollar n
month for the average consumer, this entire bond issue can be paid
off, other water bonds retired, and a surplus contributed to up
keep and iimuiti'iiauee. Isn't health and growth and continued
prosperity worth a dollar n month' '
When one considers that if the bonds are defeated and the pres
ent water system retained, the people of M ' Ifiiti I will have to
spend from ",0(Kt to iHJ.OOl) a year to keep up the present decay
ing pipe line, interest on ball' a million dollars the expense argu
ment like all the other arguments, simply falls of its own weight.
