. The scene, replete with nil the
drama of a motion picture ended
Villa' four year chase for a cham

signing came after a conference of
more than eighteen hours stretched
put over two days, and only after the
question of a referee had threatened
to wreck the negotiations.
It was finally agreed that If Paddy
Mulllns, manager of Wills, and Demp
sey could not come to terms over the
selection of the third man in the ring,
nfxty days in advance- of the contest.
Promoter Floyd Fitzslmmons, with
two members of the financial situa

Wills, Manager Mulllns and his ad
visers. Promoter Fitzslmmons nnd
others, motored from here eleven
miles, north, just over the Indiana
state line to Niles, Mich.
The reason for tho invasion of Miles
waa.for tho reason that boxing is rec
ognized as a legalized sport in Michi
gan and ki the promoters wanted to
itvold alt technicalities in the contract
thst might possibly come up later. .
Fitzslmmons announced that $300,
000 hnd been posted as forfeits with
the First National Trust company
hero. Both Dempsey and Wills re
ceived $25,000 as training expenses,
acrording to Fitzslmmons.
Tho signing took-place In the office
of Dr. Fred N. Honlno, oculist, a
staunch supperter of boxing and a
personal friend of Dempsey and Fitz
slmmons. Tho match, according to plans will
bo staged In the blue-sky. nrena own

It has a seating capacity of about 30,

merous boxing contests, notably the
Oibbons-Carpentior bout two years
ago.
: Neither Dempsey nor Wills will re
ceive a guarantee. They will box on a
per centagc, but their respective per
centages were not revealed.
Mulllns declined to say what Wills'
nhare would be, but said It was the
best offer ever made Wills for a
Dempsey match and that he was en
