COMPLETION OF
CRESCENT HARBOR
PROJECT ENDORSED
Tho Chamber of Commorce of
Southern Oregon in a large and en
thusiastic meeting held yesterday at
the new I.lthla Springs hotel at Ash
land, unanimously endorsed the prnK
silinn ot completing the Crescent City
harbor and also passed resolutions for
'presentation to the rivers and harbors
committee of congress, which will
I visit Crescent City October 7 and 8.
The chambers of Roseburg. Orants
Pass, Medford, Ashland and Klamath
'Falls agreed to act In concert In tho
mutter of sending such a strong
southern Oregon delegation to Cres
Icent City to meet tho vlBitlng con-
pressmen that there could he no doubt
of southern Oregon's position In tho
jmntter.
II. R. Snltmarsli. representing the
Crescent City Chamber of Commerce,
presented the matter and brought out
very clearly that unless a strong
showing was made, by southern Ore'
gnn at this meeting there would be
little hope of a completed harbor for
I many years to come. The visiting
congressmen wll! decide to build or
not to build largoly by the impression
made upon them by southern Oregon's
interest at the meeting.
Robert H. lloyl. secretary of the
local chamber, drew attention to a
busy schedule ahead of his chamber
and the necessity of a general call In
order to properly support this pro
gram. All Interests of southern Ore
gon, he said, can see the benefits
derived from such a nearby waterway.
It Is expected that the city will have
many representatives at the meeting
without interfering with other events
planned for" October 7 and 8.
, The drive to Crescent City 1h now
made from . Medford in six hours.
Arrangements permit every resident,
prnnerty owner .organization and asso
ciation to register for their resnectlvo
dintrtcts Avfth the congressional com
mittee and back up arguments being
made to bring ocean rates 200 miles
c'oser to tho resources of southern
Oregon. Property owners nre re
quested to cooperate with tho local
chamber.
"Numbers count. said Mr. Salt
marsh today, "whoever is silent now
should never complain again of high
freight rates. The people of Rogue
river valley had a sim'lar opnortim'ty.
to cut freight yites some II yoas
ago; but everyone left it to his neigh
bor to do, with th result that nothing
was accomplished.'- ; "
