While It was raining hard In the
valley this week it was snbwlng hard
at Crater National park, and this
morning a telephone message 1 re
ceived from tho lake said thero was
n foot of snow on the ground.
There was also six inches of snow
nt the park on Thursday and on Krl
dnfc, but the snowfall at this time of
year Is of the loose variety and melts
away fast. Such was the caso on
those two days.
Undaunted by the snow report re
ceived here this morning five tourists
from the hotels left for the lake on
this forenoon's stage, and a number
of other visitors nnd some local peo
ple also left for the lake In their own
curs. . ....

enroute to Seattle to attend a nation
al convention of fire chiefs.

eral concert selections to the harty
approval of the crewd that had gath
ered. Tho unconsumed melons and
fruit were taken by the passengers
aboard for later consumption.

The exhibit of grapes at the fair
made by the "Top O" The World
Ranch" located near Grunts Pass,
drew special attention.
They raise tokay, malaga, concord
and rose of Peru, nnd make a spec-
laity of pack for individual trado that
will stand shipment anywhere In the
United States.
Geo. S. Barton, manager of the
ranch, had charge of the display
here.
Fred T. Blolettl, head of tho viti
culture for California, on a recent
visit to the ranch said their tokay
grapes could not be excelled any
where. Rev. W. H. Gray of Butte Falls, ac
