Sunday afternoon and evening tho
Ashlund police and Sheriff Jennings
searched tho home and vicinity of tho
Lacy abode, and recovered, it is said,
articles that have been stolen during
the last three months. The younger
hoys under questioning told the
authorities of alleged crimes, and
caches. A trunk full of articles, as
sorted to have been stolen, was also
recovered..
The homo of the Lacy's Is at 481
Ciranito street. Ashland. Clydo Lacy
is said to have been entangled with
tho law before.
A preliminary hearing will be
called as soon as the authorities fin-IsH-their
investigations of the strango
case.

Russell Evans. 18, ft local youth,
is at liberty on $1000 bonds, after
being arrested Saturday night at
Butte Falls by the sheriffs office,
charged - with possessing liquor and
with a probable charge of liquor
transportation pending.
When arrested Evans had six bot
tles of liquor approximately one-half
gallon on his person, but ut the time
this was not.- in his car. He had
been under surveillance for some
time.

plea for forest conservation und re
forestation was voiced before today's
session of the annual convention of
the Concatenated Order of Moo Iloo
by Alton1 J. linger of Lansing, Mich.,
supreme senior Hoo lioo of the or
ganization. Referring to the vast waste pf for
est products in the early years of the
nation's history, which he said was
inevitable, Mr. Mager declared that
with the cut reduced to l38,u0,uoo
acres, 75 per pent of It in the Pacific
northwest, conservation of timber is
one of the most Important problems
confronting the nation, with numer
ous industries and provision of ma
terial for the nation's homes depen
dent upon it.

the Columbia river highway, under a
contract with ' Souionsen and Hefty,
between Astoria, and V venson, ac
cording to a supreme rnurt opinion
today in the injunntlon proceeding of
Frederick M. Denel'ee, uppellanl,
against tho commission.
The opinion was written by Jusllco
Cnshuw and affirms Judge Robert (5.
Morrow of the lower court for Mult
nomah county.

Four prominent business men in
the state were visitors in the city
yesterday viewing the sights of the
vulley as well as of Medford. They
accompanied Ernest L. King of Port
land, superintendent of the Southern
Pacific lines In Oregon, in his pri
vate car and included John H. Bur
sa rd of Portland, prominent Insur
ance man and chairman of tho park
commission at that city; Hussel Haw
kins of Garibaldi, vice-president and
general manager of the Whitney
Lumber company, which operates tho
largest saw mill In the state, and
Gus C. Moser, president of the. Ore
gon senate ami well-known lawyer
of Portland and attorney, for that
city. .
A short time after they arrived In
the -city yesterday forenoon the
party visited tho Owen-Oregon saw
mill ,at tho end of North Central
avenue, spending some timo there.
In the afternoon tho party watched
fruit harvesting and packing at tho
Gordon Voorhles orchard.
With Mm execution nf Mr. Burcard
who went to San Francisco, all re
turned to Portland last evening. Tho
trip to Southern Orogon was made
as an Inspection of tho lines by
Superintendent King.
While hero Mr. Moser spent a
short time In the afternoon visiting
W illiam Isaacs of the Toggery, an
old time friend.
When he pleaded guilty to a charge
of reckless driving preferred against
him by Sheriff Ralph Jennings, W. C.
Reed of Gold Hill was fined $15 yes
terday in Judge J. L. Roe's court at
Jacksonville. Heed is alleged to
have been driving a heavy Nash sport
touring car, Medford bound, at an
excessivo rate of speed when he tried
to make a curve near the Table Rock
store nine miles north of Central
Point.
The wreck, which resulted, com
pletely ruined tho car and caused
minor injuries to four other occu
pants of the car, three of whom left
the scene before the sheriff anived.
Jack Ross of Gold Hill, one pf the
three, is said to be the owner of. the
Nash. . - - ' '

William Hanna Very
III; Recovery Doubtful
The condition of William Hanna,
who recently underwent a serious
operation in a Portland hospital, was
reported yesterday us very" grave.
When his condition was thought to
be favorable, and he was seemingly
recovering from the effects of the
operation, ho suffered a hemorrage
and yesterday an operation and
transfusion of blood was performed
in an effort to save his life. No word
from Portland, as to his. condition had
been received tip to press time today.
