Jackson county, passed away at Red
ding, California, August 31, at the age
of K4 years. He was born at Farm
ington, Iowa, December , 2"), 1840.

tered several engagements with the
Indians.-. This was in the year 1857,
and upon' reaching the west he spent
some time in Yreka. Calif. Hut for
the greater part of his life has been
