The community was shocked Tues
day evening- to read of the death of
Hubert Purvis of Talent. I!ob as he
was familiarly known, was horn on
the family home ranch on Wagoner
creek, and his lived all his life in the !

Talent when the first school house was,

death. He was beloved, by all who
! knew him. an honored citizen, a kind
husband ami friend.
Hi-nee Hayman returned from Cali
furnla one day last week, and is at
home wiih his mother in North Tal
ent. Mr. Dayman is an expert packer

to Ashland and lias rented her house

Mrs. T. T. Simpson or Medford spent
last Sunday and Monday with her
daughter, Mrs. Noah Chandler.
Mrs. Lilly Hlackwood accompanied
Mr. and Mrs. John Honar nnd some
of their friends to Crater hike last
week. The party had a most enjoy
able trip.
Jim Smith of Phoenix came in hist
week from Eake of the Woods with

Mr. Dufl'ey went over to look at Mr.
Mean's place on the east side of Hear
creek Tuesday. While there he de
clares he saw the finest patch of
string beans ho ever was in. The
vines are anywhere from 10 to It;
feet high and literally loaded with
green beans.
Air. and Mrs. Louie Colver, Mrs.
Suley Dean and Mrs. Walter Stan
cliffe attended the funeral of the late
Robert Purvis at Ashland Wednesday
afternoon.

Follette, , state senator from Marion
county, made the definite statement
today that he will not be a candidate
fur re-election next year.
'I am going down the sunny side
of 81 years and when a man gets that
old It is time to stay out of politics,"
said Senator La Follette.

spent several days camping at Dead
Indian soda springs, and visited the
Oregon Caves.
Eugene Reames Is seriously HI with
typhoid fever and complications, lie
has been ill for over three weeks and
so far is only holding his own.
Mrs. Leila Kldcn and sun, Ralph,
and their house guests, Aliss Daphne
und Aiiss Shaffer,' drove down from
Portland Sunday, spent .Monday with
the J. W. Eldens and left Tuesday
morning for Lake of the Woods. They
will spend the remainder of the week
at Airs. Elden's cottage there, and
will visit Crater Lake and the Caves
before returning to Portland.
Airs. Helen Rrophy is spending a
few days here before the opening of
her school. She will be principal of
