The Metala Kxtracllng and Riflnlug
Corporation of Dgdcti. Utah, have in
stalled a treatment .plant at Grants
Pass for the recovery of the gold and
platinum values from the black sands
by means o( a process they own, con
sisting of chemical treatment followed
by amalgamation;- .They are now test
ing black sands for placer owners and
advising as to the proper kind of
equipment to Install at the mines to
save tho Hands .economically, and In
addition are opening up new nvenucs
for the production of blackxandH in
order to secure an adequate supply
to keep their treatment plant In op
eration continuously. ;
The corporation has- Installed n
demonstration plant on Hogue river
west of tho Sixth stret bridge nt Grants
Pass, on on the south side, to demon
strate bolh the values in the gravel
and the most efficient method of re
covery of (hp pnnds. The plant con
sists of a four horse power gasoline
engine, , sluice box, and under current
for saving tho sandH. The cost of the
completed plant runs from $l7f to
$200, and a plant of this kI.c will fur
nish. work for four or five men.
The gravel, where thin demonstra
tion plant Is located, runs from $1.40 )
to $I.K0 per yard In tho gold nnd
platinum values, and a man willing to
get In nnd sift can shovel .from five
tn eight yards Into the sluice box in
eight hours, mnklng a profit of from
$5 to $10 per day hetter than wages
