It W a remarkaoly good thing
that tho Volstoafi act was in effect
and that bootleggers are ho scarce,
as .Medford people are still sober to
day very much so following the
Akoholus stunt given at the Crate
rian theater last night by the Crater
club as nn adjunct to the regular
film performance.
Akoholus, whoso Identity is un
known except- that he is" one of the
big guns of the Crater club, was
spndldly all right himself and
looked fetchingly cute and beautiful
in a made-up face, which Is a big
improvement over his everyday one,
and a zouave Shriner-like costume.
But this witty gentleman of mys
tery with uncanny knowledge was
greatly handicapped by the fact that
a number of Craters acted as ushers,
thereby spoiling the natural beauty
of the handsome theater, and the
comfort of tho audience. It must be
admitted though that their presence
lent an added atmosphere of mystery.
as most of the audience kept won
dering why they should be allowed
to pcramulate thru the lobby and
down the aisles occasionally, let
alone exist. Perhaps they would h.ave
looked better in tights.
Then, too, Alcoholus was further
handicapped, partly by the fact that
due to recent rainy weather here
abouts, and partly duo to tho fact
that It was a bum piece of glass, his
crystal kept cjoudlng up. This
cloudiness was in special evidence
whenever the gloriously ralmented
gink's Crater prompter standing be
hind the scenery In his rear and
reudlng to him the (iiiestlons, etc
began to stutter and could not be
understood. '
Alcoholus furnished a lot of mys
tery and laughs for the audience, by
his rapid fire wit and satlro, assisted
by that of his prompter, with the
answers given to the many ques
tions submitted in writing as tho as
semblage went into the theater.
The Craters realized a nice sum
through this net toward the estab
lishment of decorative arches at the
main entrance roads into tho city,
