CALIFORNIA TO
TRY MOORE FOR
m
SALEM, Ore., May 14. California
authorities at Sacramento will take
immediate steps to have C. R. Moore
removed from the Oregon penitcn-
tiary and taken to Sacramento to i
be tried for the murder of Harry '
Brown in that city September 18, i
1923, says a letter received by War-,
den Dalrymple today from Bernard
McShune, chief of police at Sacra-!
mento. 1
The letter from Chief McShnne,
which Incloses a statement from Miss
Florence Pries, who was with Brown
at the time he Was killed, tends to
corroborate the confession signed
by Mooro and his wife at tho Ore
gon prison on May 1. Her story of
the crime and also tho description
of the slayer tally with the Moore
confession and with his physical ap
pearance. Miss Pries aaid that a woman w-ns
in Moore's automobile waiting for
him after the crime was committed
and in their confession Moore nnd his
wife claim that the latter was in
the car waiting for him with tho en
gine in motion so there would be no
delay in the escape. Tho confession
mentions a lawyer who chased them
after the shooting. They did not
know his name but knew from
newspaper articles at the time that
he was a lawyer. According to .Me
thane's letter this was William Sit
ton, an attorney, and son . of Desk
Sergeant Sitton of the police de
partment. The confession wns signed here
May 1 by Moore and his wife nfte
they had quarreled when Mrs. Moore
visited her husband at the prison.
Moore was sent here from Lane
county for the theft of an automo
bile. E. FEHLTO BUILD
