The work of tearing down the
old frame structure long occupied
by the Kads second hand store on
South Fir street, was begun yester
day morning to clear tho site for tho
construction of a modern two-story
business building, which will soon
lie built by the Eada brothers, G. H
K. K. and C. E.
The new structure will be 50 by
100 feot, of brick nnd concrete ma
terial with probably a brick front.
While the plans uro not yet tntlrely
complete and the building contract
has not yet been let, according to
present plans the work of building
will commence nbout.May 15 and
the structure will be finished and
occupied Inside of two months there
after. The first floor will be occupied by
the Eada Transfer & Storage com
pany nnd Clarence Eada' second
hiind store, while the upper floor
will be given over entirely for stor
age of tho Eada Transfer company,
whose office Is now located on
North 'Front street.
The razing of the delapidated old
structure and its replacement by a
modern building will bo a welcome
change on South Fir street. Tho

pilot bug In the national balloon race,
passed over Mountain View, Ark., nt
noon today, according to n telegram
he sent to his wife here. Mountain
View Is In tho north central part of
Arkansas.
ST. JOSEPH, Mo.. May 2. Of the
flvo balloons that started from here
yesterday evening in the elimination
races one had entered Kansas, two
had been sighted in central Arkansas
and tho remaining two had not been
henrd from at one 'clock this after
noon. Meanwhile It was hinted at the
starting field here that two of tho
pilots. Captain H. E. Honeywell of the
St. Joseph baloon and H. V. Thaden
of the Detroit might be disqualified
for failure to inflate their bags along
with the other contestants.
Tho Detroit landed at 2:20 a. m.
near Sclma, Kansas, having covered
about 130 miles airline. Pilot Thaden
said he was forced to quit the race
because of a leaky gas bag.

Iiwrence Hlgdon, 64 year old black
smith, is held by the police In con
nection with the deaths.
Questioned by detectives. Tiled on
said several men broke in the door of
his room and started to heat him and
that he fired about ten shots.
Jerry Howard, a roomer in the ho
tel, was arroRted when Htgdon named
him as one of the men who entered his
room, but was later released. Police
discredit a story by Hojrdon that he
did not see the Reynolds woman in
the roonrwhen he bepan shooting.
Two sons in Tacoma, 16 and 17
years old, survive the Reynolds wo
man, police announced.
