The Owen' Oregon Lumber company

or ten miles southeast of Butte Falls
burned Thursday, the timber having
been logged last season. This was
probably the cause of the rumors hero
yesterday afternoon of a forest fire in
that section.

OBITUARY
' PORTER James Satford Porter
passed away yesterday at the home
of his daughter, Mrs.- Minnie A,
Rrooks, 1 1 31 Tripp stret, where ho
has been ill from the effects pf .ad
vanced age.-' Mr.. Porter was born
at Fowler, Ohio, May 6, 1843, being
at the time of his death 81 years,
11 months, 2& days of age. Ho was
of English descent, hid parents being
early New York, state pioneers.
From his youth he bad followed
the sawmill business and had operat
ed saw mills in, the eastern, south
ern and western states.
He was made a master Mason In
Trumbeli county, Ohio, was. a mem
ber of the Christian church, and &
resident of Warren, Ohio for many
years. He was a kindly man and
highly respected by all who knew
him and leaves a host of friends to
mourn his loss
, Ho leaves three , daughters, fifteen
grand' children and eighteen great
grand children. The daughters are
Mrs. Minnie A. Brooks Medford, Mrs.
Nellie Thomas, Folsom, New Mex
ico; Mrs. Mabel Brown, Merrill, Ore.
The funeral service will be hold at
the Perl Funeral Home Saturday at
2:S0 p. m.,- Rev. J. W. DeYoe of
ficiating. Interment In Medford
cemetery.
