OBITUARY
VROMAN Ada A. Vroman, formerly
or Gold Hill, but late of Yoncalla, Ore.,
passed away at her home at that place
Monday, March 10, aged 42 years, 11
months, 22 days.
Mrs. Vroman was born In Dunn
county. Wis., March 18, 1881, and
came with her parents to Oregon in
1900, settling in Gold Hill, where she
was married the following year to Ern
est Vroman, alsoW Gold Hill, and In
1916 they movw to Yoncalla where
they had since resided.
She leaves besides her husband, two
children, Ella and: Erma Vroman, also
two sisters and five brothers. Remains
arrived In Gold Hill yesterday and
funeral services were held i nthe I. O.
O. F. hall at 2 p. m. today, Rev. D. J.
Howe of Medford had charge, inter
ment was In Rock; Point cemetery un
der auspices of the Gold Hill Rebekas
lodge of which sho was a member. Ar
rangements were in charge of the Con
ger Funeral Chapel. ,-.. ,

IN HIS SLEEP
PORTLAND, Ore., March 12.
Police here are holding Nick Varne
vich, 31, who told them that he had
slain Vinco St rich ko at Kansas City,
Mo., in lit 15. Nightmares, he said,
had ciiused him to divulge that he
was guilty of tho crime. Polico wired
to Kansas City and received a mes
sage telling them to hold Yarnevich.
The killing, according to the prisoner,
was committed because St rich ko had
knife dhim two years before while he
was attempting to tear a friend from
fitrichko's grasp. Yarnevich said he
was arrested by the police at the time,
but was retased.

cont of operation of a nautomobile on
a mileage basis. , .
In preparing the annual budget the
government statisticians have figured
original cost, depreciation, gasoline,
tires, etc., and reports that the cost
per mile for motor cars Is seven cents,
and for motorcycles three cents.
Allowance 1s marie' for certain con
ditions, such arf mountainous regions
and poor roads, but whilb the figure
may bo high in some localities nnd
low in others, the experts state that
the seven-cent figure is adequate nnd
fair, and it has been accepted by the
budget commltteo- in figuring esti

quitted last nght of the charge, of man
slaughter, followng hs , second trul,
Kellington was the driver of a car in
wheh George - Humphreys, Olendale
merchant was riding as a passenger. In
rcundinir a curve, KellinKton's ma
chine collided .with- a-lourist's car and
Humphreys was thrown put and his
neck "broken. The state claimed that
the salesman was driving at a reckless
and dangerous rate of speed and that
he was responsible for the act. On the
first triai the jury Jailed to agree. A
special term of coart convened Mon
day and the' second trial was first on
the docket. 'After a short deliberation
the- Jury returned a 'verdict- of not
guilty 1 ; ' .
