A Bed 87 years 11 months ami 24 days,
tlnm at Mannfietd, Ohio, March 1C,
U36. He was one of the early pio
neers of Oregon, coming with the gold
rush of 1819. He was mall contractor
between Yreka, Cal., and Rnseburg,'
Ore., before tha railroads; also served
as a scout In the Modoc Indian wars
under General Canby and also sorved
as sheriff of Jackson county from
1875 to 1879. He had been a resident
of Klamath county since 1885 and
leave bis wife. Belle, two daughters
and three sons, Mrs. Waite Fay, Port-
land. Ore.; Mrs. Frances Schalhorn.
Klamath Falls, Ore., and A. J. Manning,
Klamath Falls, Ore.. George W. Man
ning, Albany, Ore. The remains will
arrive from Klamath Falls Wednesday
evening and funeral services -will to
