CZECHO SETTLEMENT
IS
ROGUE RIVER VALLEY
B. T. Hnlzda, Held representative
for the American Czecho Slovak Cham
ber of Commerco ot Portland was In
Medford today en route to Klamath
Falls where he will look over that dis
trict with a view to another Czecho
Slovak settlement. On his return Mr.
Hnlzda will stop in Medford and look
over the Rogue River valley with the
same object in mind.
Czecho Slovak colonies have been
very successful in Oregon, notably
thoBe at Scio, Ochoco, Malin and other
districts. The prospective settlers do
not come from the old country but
from the industrial centers of the east
particularly the coal mining regions,
where they have all made some money,
but as they are naturally an agricul
tural people, most of them are looking
for farming opportunities in the far
west Mr. Hnlzda is particularly In
terested In cheap land, fitted for dairy
ing, poultry and pigs, and local officers
of the Chamber of Commerce believe
he will find what he wants near this
city.
Mr. Hnizda was accompanied by
Professor Vlning, president of the
State Chamber ot Commerce, who in
vltod hi into visit here on his return
north. '
