REAL ESTATE MEN
MEET TONIGHT
. There wlU be an important mooting
of all active real estate men now doing
business In 'Medford, tonight at 7:110
p. m. in the Chamber of Commerce
building. It will be Hhown that it reul
estate dealers' organization Ih highly
Important to the future of that busi
ness In this community ami that much
good tan he accomplished by such
an organization working as a milt ut
this time und co-operating with thu
efforts of the Oregon Htato Chamber
of Commerce In its land settlement
program.
It has been shown that the Mate of
Oregon may properly expect one hun
dred thousand new settlers during tho
coming year us a direct result of thti
tremendous advertising plans of three
large railroads of the northwest.
These railroads have appropriated the
sum of six million dollars for the sole
purpose of advertising ttio northwest
and It Is estimated that this adver
tising will cause one, million peuplo
to visit the stuto of Oregon during
the coming year.
If the united efforts of tho Mod
ford real estato dealers can cauHo a
reasonable percentage of these vis
itors to. look over the Hogue I liver
valley it Is obvious that the growth
and development of-thls district will
be materially aided.

MEXICALI, SINK

I.OS ANOEI,ES, Cnl., Feb. 14.
(By tho AHSoclnted Press) MexlcaM,
the Mexican town facing Calexlco,.
t'al., iicrosa the American-Mexican '
borOor, UUO miles south of here. Is a ''
".sink of Iniquity, whose evil Influence--'
permeates the entire Imperial valley," .
according to a statement made here
today by I.ucien Wheeler of the Unit
ed Klutes department of justice, bu
reau of Investigation who has Just re
turned from a. trip of investigation
ut tho border. '
AVheeler said he was preparing a
report for the department at Wash
ington In which ho would recommend
that tho border bo closoU between
Calexlco and Mexican every evening
at 7 or 8 o clock to prevent Americana
pouring into this "pot of vice."
In the dens of Mexicali, Wheeler
said, there are 300 girls, of whom
250 have been recruited from the
ranks of tho underworld on tho A me r
ian Hide of the border.
"In Mexicali," he continued, 'a ,
gambling syndicate has built a gambl
ing palace that accommodates 1500
persons. Unless something is done to
stop tho nightly exodus from Calexlco
and other points in the Imperinl vat
ley these vultures of chance will con-
tlnue to fatten their bankrolls at the
expense of tho farming and laboring
classes of tho valley.
"Men who work hard for their,
money in southern California now are ;
throwing It away across the green
Imizo tables in Mexican. Their faml
lies aro going hungry and shoeless.
"in the imperial valley the people
aro praying to Clod 'for a visitation of
jleavenly wrath on the fllough of sin
