OF
STREETS IN
ASTORIA FIRE ZONE
ASTORIA, Ore., Feb. 18. The
work of filling the streets in the burn
ed district of Astoria will probably
not be delayed more thnn a few days,
. poHsibly a week, by the disastrous
collapHe of a section of the retaining
wull fit the east end of the burned
area Saturday night.
It was decided following ft confer
ence of engineers to re-inforco the
walla throughout the district by
heavy steel rods running from one
Bide of the street to the other. These
will be drawn tight by turn buckles,
thus supporting the walls.
- They have already'been ordered and
will be placed every twenty-five feet
throughout the district- as soon as a
sufficient number are in place dredg
ing will be resumed.
