PASS WILSON TOMB
WASHINGTON, D. C. Fob. 8. Tho
crowds which have been passing thru
A Bethlehem chapel at the cathedral
where Woodrow Wilson was entomb
ed Wednesday, today Rave no Indica
tion of diminishing. Despite the cold
weather they began feathering oaiiy
today and by nine o'clock had over
flowed the streets and tied up traffic.
The flowei-H sent to the chapel as
tributes to Mr. Wilson will be left
there until they are faded. Tho war
department has piVen. orders that tho
soldier guard shall remain for an in
definite period.
COMMUNICATIONS
Opposed to Ruch Pavement
To the Editor:
Please accept tlie congratulations of
a modest farmer and tax payer upon
your stand against t'.ie Insane proposal
of the Honorable (?) County Court to
"Tea Pot Dome" the treasury of
Jackson county with a Medford-Ruch
pavement For that Is Just whnt such
a pavement Indicates to many of us
out here who in the end are to be
called upon to pay the fiddler.
So far I have not seen a statement
by the county court giving its reasons,
if any there bo, for such an expendi
ture. Would not such a statement bo
Justified" under the circumstances?
Would it be asking too much of the
gentlemen who deliberate in Jackson
ville to suggest that they publish over
their signatures a statement giving all
of their reasons" for this proposed fex-
penditure? Many of us are in dark
ness, absolute darkness, on the point
and we do not wish to prejudice the
issues.
As one who has opposed with all his
energy the removal of the court hoima
to Medtord, in past elections for that
purpose, I feel that I have been betray
ed by my former friends the "antl-TO-movalists."
It seems to me that now
the time is propitious for a new ham-mer-and-tongs,
straight out campaign
by the Medford Chamber of Commerce
to administer the final anesthetic to
poor old Jacksonville and push It on
over into oblivion. This should bo the
fitting reply of the county at large to
such an attempt to loot the treasury
to replace the finest macadam road in
Southern Oregon with a hard surfaced
pavement Central Point and AHhland
can now reckon their chickens come
homo to rooso.
Would not "Gardner's Folly" bo an
appropriate name for this proposed
white elephant? Sound's better than
"Mcdford-Ruch road" and would re
quire loss printer's ink on the tax re
ceipts for the next twenty years.
And now comes Mr. Tlursell nnd
adds insult to injury. He asks "an
other term!" And on his record ! ! !
And he should get it right where
tho justly celebrated "yaller" legged
chicken got tho axe when the parson
stayed for dinner. T. POT DOME.
4 Gold Hill, Seventh February.
Note: Upon request and under cer
tain circumstances signatures arc
withheld, but no unsigned communica
tions are printed. The names of wrlt
ters of any communications printed in
this paper will be given on request.
Replies to Judge Watson.
To the Editor:
In reply to our esteemed Judge
Watson, please allow me to emphati
cally speak in the affirmative regard
ing the Building of a new courthouse
in Medford.
I daresay that at least 85 per cent
of legal business carried on in Jackson
county is by way of Medford and
Medford attorneys, and why pay out
rageous fees when if the courthouse
was In Medford such fees would bo
very ncjninal. eliminating traveling
lees, l am iniormca tnac yu i--
of legal duties of sheriffs offico in
service of legal papers, etc., come dl
rectly and Indirectly from Medford.

"Wily all this loss of time and cx
penso in traveling to Jacksonville?
Practically everybody, Including
Judge Watson, sock accommodations
elsewhere than Jacksonville, when at
tending court. Then why not put the
courthouse whore it will be reasonably
accessible to all? Hud the courthouse
been in Medford tho $100,000 which
was lost In tho Jacksonville vaude
vlllo bank would not now have to be
again filched by way of taxes from
the already overburdened shoulders of
tho taxpayers. Neither would the
leak in sheriff's offico during tho in
cumbency of Wilbur Jones have been.
For the above $100,0M and $20,000
of taxpayer's money would have been
In relinblo vaults instead of 'tho ten
taclos of petty peanut politicians.
And then at least 50 per cent of the
traffic over lledford-Jucksonvillo road
would be eliminated, and then Judge,
don't you honestly believe a good
macadam road would suffice very
nicely? Why build a $20,000 per mile
pavement over tho best macadam road
in the county, whllo bettor than 50
per cent of tho rural laterals are in
mud neck deep? Why pavo Main
street in Jacksonville at county ex
pense and leave culverts, bridges and
ditchos full of mud and filth In the
rural districts? Why all this divine
solicitation for the ease and welfare of
tho splendid and thrifty people of
ltuch whllo others wallow in the
mire? Why pay out $10,000 this year
on Medford-Jacksonvillo road and
then permit excess loads to bump it
full of holes. - '
The farce has been sprung, tho bus
iness men have been dubbed , the
"goats-," let the prlzo BO to the star
performer.
That funny sounding "we" Is my in
heritance from the preamble of the
U. S. constitution and never having
been Inducted into tho legal frater
nity, I have always kept faith with tne
sanio rather than substitute tho pro
noun "I." Mv theory is to Uulldfor
tho common weal of those already
lmi n ami in distress rather than bleed
a turnip to secure poison bait for
suckers. Avo muria!
