The Screen
Tod Sloan's Career
' The career of Tod Sloan, the world
farnous- Jockey, was used as the basis
of "Little Johnny Jones," the screen
adaptation of George M. Cohan's stage
success, which will begin at the Itlalto
theatre tomorrow matinee, with
Johnny Hlncs in the stellar role.
Tod Sloan won a niche In racing by
his successive victories. He was
sailing along "pretty" when suddenly
racing circles were astounded by his
suspension. No explanations were
given. It was shrouded In mystery.
All that was known was that Tod and
the race track were parted.
Now it has been made into a classic
of, the screen with a cast composed
of Johnny Hlnes, the" Georgo M.
.Cohan of the screen; Wyndham
Standing, Margaret Scddon, Robert
Prior, Molly Malone, George Webb.
Mervyn Leltoy, Pauline French, "Fat"
Carr, and Brownie the Wonder dog.
"The Darling -of Now York," with
Baby. Peggy as star closes at the
Kialto tonight. It's a great melo
drama of the gripping type.

Andromeda Hurst Charley
Andremeda Hurst Charley was born
in 1836 In Harrison county,. Indiana,
the youngest daughter of Nimrod and
Mary Pennington Hurstr and died In
Ashland January 27th, 1924, aged 88
years. She was married to William
Charley, (born in Harrison, county,
Ind.. in 1932,) in 1853.' She and her
husband at once moved to Keokuk,
Iowa, where they lived . until 1855.
They next moved to Omaha, .Neb
where they lived one year, then to
Elkhorn City, Neb., whore another
year was spent. In 1X58 the ror
turned to Corydon, Ind., where they
settled a half mile east of the present
home of John Wheat. The house, is
now gone. In 1861 her husband en
listed In the Civil war and' served to
the end. .
In 1867 they again started westward
and stopped at Mason City, Iowa, for
three years. From there they next
moved to Red Oak in southwest Iowa
where they spent three years In, town
and three years on a farm. In 1876

Uvhere a brother, Martin P. Hurst, had
'settled some twenty years before. For
the first ten years they rented land
' and then bought a homestead near
Climax, Oregon, where fourteen years
of their lives were spent.
In 1900 they moved to Medford.
Ore., where they lived up to the time
of her. husband's death, - which oc
curred November 10, 1920. Of the
five children, their names aro ns fol
lows; Nimrod Newal Charley, born at
Keokuk, Iowa; Lemon Case, born at
Omaha, Neb.; Cusslus Clay and
"Woodford Merrill, born near Corydon,
Ind.; Minnie Evaline. born at Maso.'.
City, III. . All are living and have fam
ilies except Cassius Clay, who tMed,
leaving a wife and three children, and
Woodford who recently died In Med
ford, ' Mrs. Charley has two couBins living
