Speaking before the 27th annual con
vention of the Oregon AVooh Growers'
association, Fred W. Falconer, one of
the big mutton and wool producers of
the. west, discussed the sheep and
agricultural interests of the west and
declared that the end of 1923 saw the
sheep business In much better condi
tion than the end of the preceding
year. He declared that at present the
sheep business was the only agricul
tural Industry that is on its feet finan
cially and that is really making
money, but that "we cannot long hope
to romain prosperous If other agri
cultural industries do not prosper."
Mr. 'Falconer stated that relief for
the wheat farmer was an absolute
necessity and declared in favor of the
McNary-Haugen bill and urged the
convention to pass a resolution favor
ing it.
Referring to the tariff Mr. Falconer
declared that the sheep business owed
in a large measure its prosperity to
tho tariff in its present effect. The
president of the state association de
clared for tho Esch-Cumniins law and
stated that he believed it had been
the best railroad law ever enacted by
congress. As to the proposition of
raising grazing fees, Mr. Falconer
urged that not only should the . fees
not be raised but that a charge for
grazing should only be enough to
cover the cost of administration.-
