Regarding County Taxes
To the Editor: I am wondering
where the tax commlsBlon succeeded
in doing much valuable work for
Jackson county.
Two (2) mill's reduction In state
levy, and by enhanced property valu
ation, one (1) mill In county levy,
making a final 3 mill reduction, Im
presses mo, that occasionally, others
than those from Minnesota and Kan
sas indulged In political bunk. Had
the eommisHion demanded an eight
(8) hour actual work day for every
county official, deputy and clerk who
dares say that from $1500 to 2000
per month could not have been saved
to the taxpayers?
Every member of the county court
was elected upon a plea of revenue
and retrenchment and every year they
have retrenched upward and revenued
downward. But this the off year,
political year if you please, the smil
ing buncoer of tho poor downtrodden,
horny-fisted farmer weeks Absolom
tears. Just a little retrospection re
minds me that during the officialdom
of TouVelle, Leever and Madden,
when our county levy reached 17 mills
our present commissioner, Uursell,
was so eiynged that he demanded an
immediate recall of tho ravishers of
our county finances and honor. Has
anybody ever heard a single sugges
tion from him about recalling the"
present court? , ;
No, not even when the' mlllngo was
27 mills. By way of enhanced valua
tion and millage the taxes upon our
little home here havfe Increased nearly
400' per cent in ten years. Strange,
