about fifty bottles of grape juice.
Some of tho bottles were labeled
1917 and some of them had later
dates. The grape juice was Bweet
and unfermented. No owner has been
found for them and where they came
from is still a mystery, though the
Juice has evidently been put up In
some homo.

SALEM. Ore., Jan. 17. The public
service commission announces the
establishment of joint through rate?,
effective February 19, between Gyp
sum In eastern Oregon on the Oregon
Short lino and points on tho lines of
tho Southern Pacific south of Port
land, Including Salom, Albany, Cor-
vu II Is, Eugeno and Roseburg on car
load shipments of wall plaster, land
plaster and gypsum rock. Hitherto
theso commodities were shipped to
Portland on a 111 cent rate plus the
local rates from Portland, south.
Tho new carload rate for instance
on a 60.000 pound car of land plas
ter to Eugeno Is now 2G1.4c, a reduc
tion of Tk cents per hundred pounds
or $45 per car.
The eastern Oregon plant has for
Its main competitor tho plant at Gyp
sum, Montana, which, it Is claimed,
sought to Invade this territory thru
the medium of special low rates. This
tariff was suspended by the inter
state commerce commission nnd a
decision now handed down requires
tho Montana schedules to be cancelled
on the grounds that the proposed
rates and minimum weights were un
duly prejudicial to the Oregon plant.
