Word has been received from the
secretary of state at the local regis
tration bureau for out-of-the-otato
cars that until February 1 the 1923
licenses of non-resident cars will bo
recognized, but after that date the
owners of non-resident cars must
either show 1924 license plates or the
applications made for name. The
new registration blanks have not been
received by the local hureuu, but are
expected to arrive within a few days,
and until that time no curs will be
registered. The year 1123 closed with
8015 out of the stato cars having
registered at the locul bureau slnco
last June.

ed water pipes to froezo and burst
In many homes Monday night and
Tuesday morning and last night and
this morning, attended by tho discom
fitures usuul on such occasions, and
keeping plumbers busy for days to
come. Tho firo fuel consumption in
all homes was also greatly increased,
and therefore tho prediction of
warmer weather for tomorrow is most
welcome.
The half Inch of enow this morning
and forenoon caused much skidding
of non-chain equipped autos, and falls
on the part of pedestrians, aa it was
of soft consistency, making tho pave
ments slippery nnd forming compact
balls by clinging to poles and heels of
shoes.
This forenoon the weathor observor
at Fish Lake, forty miles northeast of
tho city, phoned in to C. C. Cato that
tho minimum temperature thoro was
fivo degrees below zero. This low
temperaturo in that district causes
somo apprehension on the part of
water works officials because the city
water works intaku is located but
about JO miles from there. However,
no trouble at; the intake frith freezing
temperaturo, and ica had been re
ported at tho city hall up to noon

today for the Caribbean to form the
greatest armada ever nssemhled under
the American flag in the navy's war
maneuvers mt Panama, with them
going more than 3000 marines from
Uunntlco. Va., and 87 airplanes.
The fleet, which Is commanded by
Admiral Robert E. Count?:, will com
prise, when gathered in the south
ern waters 15 battleships, four light
cruisers, 63 destroyers, 11 submarines,
one airplane carrier, ono airplane
tender, four destroyers, three subma
rine tenders, five mine layers, two
transports and 33 train vessels. '
