rested at Mount Vernon, thirty miles
south of lioro, last nlsht for alleged
implication In the robbery of a bank
at Los Angeles, Cal., In August, con-
fossed to Skagit county authorities this
morning that he was the driver of one
of the two automobiles used by the
biindits .according to Information from
Mount Vernon.
Aasen is alleged to have told the
officers that he did not know how
much loot was ohtulnefl by the rob
bers, of whom there were said to have
been four, bnHidcs the drivers of the
two automobiles. Ho Is said to have
denied that ho participated In other
bank robberies 1n tho west.
Aasen was arrested by Skagit coun
ty officers and J. E. Sandusky of Seat
tle, representative of the Hums Detec
tive agency. Ho was quoted as having
confessed that he wus a member of
the Hartnoll gang, which had its head-'
quarters nt Ixs Angeles. Grant Hart-
nrll, alleged lender, was said to have
been captured during a holdup of a
bank in Kansas City, Mo., in Soptcm
ber. , '
Aason came to Mount Vernon about
six weeks ago with his wlfo and two
children and was employed as a line

Thls 'matter cama on to be considered oh the 26th day of November,
1923, all braaid Commission namely: W. E. Phipps, Chairman: E. E. Dlm
lck, Commissioner: J. H. Fuller, Commissioner, and R. E. Sweeney, Secre
tary, being present; the said budget of Jackson County was examined and
considered and officials of said county consulted In reference thereto.
On the 8rd day of Decembor, 1923, the said matter came on for further
consideration,, all the members of said Commission being present, whereupon
further consideration and examination of said budget was had. At said time,
the several officials of Jackson County, to-wit: The Sheriff of Jackson,
County,: the Clerk of Jackson County, tho Assessor of Jackson County, tho
Treasurer of Jackson County, and tha School Superintendent of Jackton
County, appeared before said Commission and were interrogated and exam
ined and their opinions obtained in reference to said County Budget for tha
purpose of ascertaining whether or not the Baid budget or any Items thereof
might be reduced.
On the 6th day of December. 1923, the said Jackson County Tax Super
vising and Conservation Commission met again In regular session at the
Court House in Jacksonville, Jackson County, Oregon, all of said members;
being present, as aforesaid, to-wit: W. E. Phlppa, Chairman; E. E. Dlmlck,,
Commissioner J. H Fuller. Commissioner, and R. E. Sweeney. Secretary,
for the further consideration of the budget of Jackson County? Oregon, as
aforesaid. At said time and place appeared before said commission the
County Commissioners Court of Jackson County, to-wit: The County Judge
and the County Commissioners of Jackson County, Oregon, for consultation
and examination foi- tho purpose of ascertaining whether or not any reduc
tion, or reductions, might be made from said County Budget as the same had
been presented and filed and supplied to said Commission.
After the retirement of said Commissioners Court and after duo consid
eration and deliberation .of the said Commission, it was considered, decided
and determined that two certain items of said budget might with Impunity
and propriety be reduced, , to-wit: The State Tax item of said budget and the
Current Expense Fund of said budget, the former in the sum and amount ot (
one-half mill thereof and the latter in the sum and amount of one-half mill
thereof and in the aggregate the sum and amount of one mill, making a total
reduction on said budget of Twenty-eight Thousand ($28,000.00) Dollars.
WHEREFORE, in consideration of the premises. It Is now and hereby
considered and ordered that the said budget of Jackson County be. and the'
same hereby is, modified in the particulars mentioned, to-wit: That the Item
j of nine mills for State Taxes bo, and the same hereby 13, modified and, re
duced to 8:5 mills and that the Item of Current Expense Fund be, and the
I same hereby Is, modified and reduced from 5.2 mills to 4.7 mills, making an
aggregate reduction from said budget by the modification of the Items
thereof in the sum of Twenty-eight Thousand ($28,000.00) Dollars. . , .' , '
