CHICAGO, Dec. 19. If state medi
cal licensing boards will admit to ex-

' fled doctors, the American Medical
association declared today in an offic
ial statement by its executive com

The statement said that the number
of medical imposters and poorly qtml-
ifled physicians in tho country "does
not even approximate 25,000," the
i number claimed by a man under In-
jdictment for diploma frauds In Mis
souri. It set out that during the past
eight years, not more than 2500 grad
uates of low grade medical schools
have rocolved licenses.
"Thero are today five medical
schools In tho United States which are
not up to the high standard of tho
remaining seventy-six, " the statement
said.

ing "flop-house" has suffered a no
ticeable patronage for homeless men,
even in their periods of unemploy
ment, now demand a hostelry of a
higher grade, according to tho Rev.
Dennis J. Dunn, chancellor of the
Catholic archdiocese of Chicago.
These men, says Father Dunne, are
choosing In Increased numbers the
lodging houses where baths nnd the
fumigation of clothing are entrance
requirements. The change has come
(tbout since the enactment of prohl
bitlon, according to the chancellor.
"Homeless men are saving their
money now," explains Father Dunne.
"It is surprising how woll some of
them are living.
"They are eating more and better
food. They also are more particular
about where they sleep. In many
cases they are going to the Mission of
the Holy Cross, whore there are news
papers on tables to be read, and to
other institutionally conducted lotlgr
ing-houses, with an evident deslro to
learn rather than slcop on the floor.
Our mission is full, and twice as
many men as there la room for would
like to, lodge there."

Basing its observations on data sup
plied by the twolvo land banks presi
dents who have just completed their
winter conference hero the board said
in a statment that conditions In tho
agriculture industry show a very sat
isfactory improvement.
The information furnished by the
land bnnk officials gave every reason,
the' statement said, for the belief that
the improvement noted in the past
year would continue

satisfactory In most sections and this
was accepted ns indicating tho fur
mers are getting on their feet finan
cially. "Agricultural conditions on the
whole," tho statement added, "con
tluuo to improve although thero are
soctions which on account of partial
crop failures, the low price of the
principal crop or scarcity of labor, are
not prosperous. This of course, in
cludes only a fractional part of the
total farming area. The fruit grow
ers and cattlo raisers nppear to be the
most unfortunate. The wheat farmer,
on tho wholo has not had a prosper
ous year.
Thero is every reason, however, to
believe that this Improvement will
continue. The most encouraging part
of tho report to the board Is the ten
dency throughout the United States
to diversify farming. It Is our belief
that diversification and cooperative
marketing furnish the only sound
basts for agricultural prosperity."

are said to have beon driven to des
peration by the ruthless collection of
food taxes, religious persecutions and
the harsh official soviet regime.

LOB ANGELES. Dec. 19. Mrs.
Adetalde Manola Hughes, wife of
Major Rupert Hughes, author, took
her life by hanging while mentally
deranged from the Intense pain of ear
ache, according to a cahlegrom ' re
eclved today by Major Hughes from
Haiphong, Indo China, containing the
details of his wife's death.
