Citizens passing by last evening
were agreeably surprised to see the
big municipal Christmas tree installed
and .brilliantly lighted up, on the
lawn In front of the public library.
Heretofore the community tree has
been installed a day or so before
Christmas. This year the city admin
istration furnished the treo, and City
Supt. Davis and assistants obtained
the tree and installed it yesterday

A Woman In the east sees hope ot

The city council organization, fol
lowing the recent change of dividing
the city Into four wards with two
councilman each, instead of three
wards with two councilmen each, ns
has always boon the rule was com
pleted last, night at the beginning of
the long session of the council. '
By unanimous agreement Mayor
Gaddls and the seven councilmen. In-"
eluding A. C. Hubbard, who was
chosen a few woeks ago, Robert II.
Hammond, secretary and treasurer of
the Home Telephone and Telegraph
company was selected, summoned
from home, agreed to serve and was
Immediately sworn in.
The selection of Mr. Hammond, as
was the case with Mr. Hubbard, Is gen
erally regarded as a ton strike be
cause of his well known business abil
ity, and general knowlodge ot the
city's affairs and needs.
Now that the city council Is compos
ed of eight members, with each com
mittee consisting of two councilmen,
it is confidently expected that city af
fairs will be cxpoditod from now on.
The change Into four wards was ac
complished by dividing the old First
ward In two. That section west of the
railroad tracks and Bouth of Main
street, remaining as the new First
ward, and the section lying east of the
railroad tracks and north ot Main
street constituting the new1 Fourth
ward. The boundaries of the Second
and Third wards remain unchanged.
The wards are represented as fol
lowsFirst, J. H. Butler and A. C.
Hubbard; Second, E. H. Jannoy and
O. O. Alonderfer; Third, B. W. Paul
