federal court in Portland yesterday,
and was fined $2f0 on the charge of
transporting liquor. In addition his
Star car was libeled. The case has
been handled throush the local fede
ral prohibition officers.
It will be remembered that shortly
after the nuto wreck Dahm was ar
rested and later was arraigned in
Judge Taylor's court on the federal
charge and bound over to United
States district court at Portland under
$1000 bail. Since then he has been
a prisoner in the county jail and is
now. His wife was working today at
Hilt to raise the $250 fine, and both
the prisoner and she expect to obtain
his release by tonight.
OBITUARY
YOUNO WILLIAM W. Youug died
at the home of his son, Mr. R. C.
Young, 39 No. Orange, Wednesday
morning, aged 67 years, 3 months 3
days, after a lingering illness of sev
eral months.
Deceased was born In Illinois and
w hen but a young man went to Lodge-
pole, Nebraska, where the greater part
of his life was spent. A large part
of bis business career was spent in the
lumber business, at one time he hav
ing charge of five different yards. In
later years Mr. Young had been very
prominent in the hardware business In
California. The remains were shipped
through the Perl Funeral Home to Los
Angeles for interment Thursday. The
close relatives living here accompa
nied the body to Its final resting placo.

evangelistic meetings, insomuch that
the whole northwest has been stirred
as never before. According to his
own statement, Dr. Price was trans
formed from a popular and unfruitful
pulpiteer to a genulno winner of
souls, through, the message, of this
modern Joan d'Arc, Alinee Semple
McPherson., .
No reference of mine is needed to
call to mind the stir which was occa
sioned by the presence of Dr. Price In
tills neighborhood. By many deeply
spiritual people within all the denom
inational churches and likewise by
various worldly critics, the four-fold
message of this flaming evangelist
was heralded as the return to au
apostate church of the glorious inher
itance committed to His followers by
.lesus Christ Himself. See Mk. 10:10

The writer finally made a trip to
Los Angeles for the express purpose
of studying during a period of two
months the work and ministry of Mrs.
McPherson. If the results of this
critical investigation may be of Inter
est to my friends and acquaintances in
this county through the courtesy of
your columns, I am glad to present
them.
The sight which greets the visitor
to AngeliiH Temple, the home base, of
j the Four-Square gospel movement, is
a. most Inspiring one. A great audito
rium holding more tnan the wholo city
of Medford at the census of 1920. This
Is frequently filled to capacity with
hundreds turned away. The attraction
, Is simply the old story of the gospel,
for Mrs. McPherBon Ib essentlaly an
evangelist. Out of more than forty
meetings held In the temple weekly,
but two of them, are "healing" ser
vices. Since the. opening of the tem
ple January first of this year, thou
sands upon thousands of men, women
and children have knelt at the ultai
there seeking the free gift of salva
tion ten thousand up to September
first by actual count.
A "Watch Tower," where for nearly
a year prayer has never ceased day

ple. Hundreds of young people train
ing for service; the largest Sunday
school In the world: hundreds at visit
ors from coa&f. to coast and foreign

these are some of the convincing fea
tures of this great Holy Ghost revival.
The organizing and presiding ge
nlus of this movement is Mrs. Almee
Semple McPherson. Called from a
bumble farm home In Canada at the
age of seventeen she .has almost lit
erally "taught all nations" in a minis
try which has reached America, Asia,
Europe and the islands of the sea. At
thirty-three Mrs. McPherson is an In
ternational figure and one of the fore
most religious leaders of this or any
age.
Humble, of child like faith, without
personal ambition, untouched with
modern materialism, "Slater" McPher
son exemplifies In a marvelous dogrce
what God is able to do with a will en
tirely surrendered to Him. To ascribe
sordid motives to her ministry Is to
vllllfy and slander her. Prejudice and
I unbelief break down before her. very
evident lack of worldly wisdom. She
constantly enthrones Jesus Christ.
What seems to be the "bone of con
tention" In this section concerning the
ministry of this new school of believers
Is that they preach and practice heal
ing by Divine Power. With the
words of Christ's commission (Mk. 1C)
ringing la their ear and never yet
withdrawn; with thA assurance that
He Is "the same yesterday, today and
forever" these Btrange people have
had the temerity to steput on the
promises and have proved In thous
ands of recorded cases that He Is the
great I Am of all ages.
As before stated, the primary em
phasis olj both Dr. Price and Mrs.
McPherBon Is put upon evangelism.
Christ Himself came to teach, but
"moved with compassion," He somo-
tlmes turned aside to heal bodies as
well as souls. The healing ministry Is
likewise with these, His followers,
given a subordinate place. However,
from the standpoint of the newspa
pers the feature given most publicity
Is the fact that the blind eyes are
opened and the deaf ears unstopped;
that the lamo are walking and the
sick niade whole.
